ABOUT

Proven Noise Control Solutions Across the Grid

Power plants generate more than energy, they also generate significant acoustic energy. Excessive noise can endanger employees, affect equipment longevity and violate local and international regulations. Burgess-Manning custom-engineers silencers for turbines, compressors, blowers, generators and transformers.

From peaker plants to combined cycle facilities, Burgess-Manning silencers and acoustic technologies are installed in hundreds of power generation sites worldwide. We’ve partnered with OEMs, EPCs and utilities to develop engineered solutions that are effective, compliant and built for extreme thermal and pressure conditions.

Peaker power plants face unique acoustic challenges that demand specialized noise control solutions. Operating during periods of high electricity demand, these plants generate significant noise levels that impact surrounding communities, must meet stringent regulatory standards and maintain operational efficiency.

Peaker plants produce noise from gas turbine operations, auxiliary equipment and start-up and shutdown cycles that create complex acoustic challenges.

Gas turbines can generate noise levels exceeding 170 decibels, creating both broadband and tonal noise components.

Combined cycle power plants’ sophisticated dual-turbine systems create complex acoustic challenges. These facilities require comprehensive noise control solutions to mitigate the diverse sound sources generated by both gas turbine and steam turbine operations, along with their supporting systems.

Combined cycle plants generate noise from multiple interconnected systems that operate simultaneously. These plants experience significant noise increases during startup, with unmitigated startup noise potentially reaching levels 20 decibels higher than baseload operations due to bypass operations, steam venting and rapid load changes.

The complex acoustic challenges presented by integrated gas and steam turbine systems demand specialized engineering solutions that address multiple noise sources simultaneously while supporting efficient plant operations.

Single cycle power plants, also known as simple cycle combustion turbines (SCCTs), present unique acoustic challenges that demand specialized noise control solutions. Primarily used for peaking power and grid stabilization, generate intense noise levels from high-performance gas turbines.

The gas turbine can generate unmitigated sound levels that can exceed 110 decibels. Noise levels from individual pieces of auxiliary equipment, rapid starts and intake and exhaust discharge can reach levels of 155 decibels.
