Preset Vent Silencers

Vent silencers are used to control the very high noise levels associated with venting pressurized gases to the atmosphere, such as steam, natural gas, air, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen or any other combination of compressed gases.

Burgess-Manning vent silencers are typically installed on relief, safety, control, start-up and vent valves, including applications such as autoclaves, in steam boilers, HRSGs, gas compression systems and similar equipment.

They are widely used across industries such as power generation, oil & gas, chemical processing, industrial manufacturing and utilities, as well as in any application where pressurized gases are vented to the atmosphere.

To meet the rising demand for standard, in-stock and ready-to-ship vent silencers, Burgess-Manning has developed a dedicated range of Preset Vent Silencers. This range provides you with the lightest silencer in its class with immediate shipment, enabling rapid resolution of on-site noise issues.

Our optimized standardized design combines compact dimensions with reliable acoustic performance across a defined range of flow conditions, while maintaining Burgess-Manning’s highest manufacturing and quality standards. All Preset Vent Silencers are self-supported on the discharge pipe and supplied with either a butt-weld or flanged inlet connection.

Industrial applications generate considerable noise as a result of high-capacity machinery, continuous operations and complex infrastructure. Without proper noise control, these environments can pose risks to employee health, disrupt surrounding communities and violate environmental and occupational noise regulations. Implementing tailored noise mitigation solutions of acoustic walls, noise barriers and silencers while utilizing acoustic modeling, CFD, FEA and noise measurements to design solutions not only supports safety, but also enhances operational efficiency and community relations.

Preset Vent Silencer FAQ

Preset vent silencers are pre‑engineered standard units selected from product sheets. They offer fast availability and are often stocked for immediate shipment.

An industrial silencer is a noise control device designed to reduce sound generated by gas or air flow in exhaust, vent or ventilation systems. It works by slowing down the flow, dissipating energy and absorbing sound through a combination of diffusers, absorptive materials or reactive chambers.

Lead time depends on silencer type and project complexity. Standard or modular silencers can often be delivered within weeks, while fully custom designs typically require longer engineering and fabrication schedules.

With proper design, material selection and installation, industrial silencers can operate reliably for decades. Service life depends on operating conditions such as temperature, corrosion, erosion and duty cycle.

Silencer performance is measured by noise attenuation in decibels (dB), insertion loss, pressure drop and mechanical integrity under operating conditions. Performance guarantees are defined at specific measurement locations.

Vent silencers generally require minimal maintenance. Proper material selection and design eliminate the need for routine spare parts in most applications.
