Acoustic Containers

Acoustic containers are custom and semi-standard industrial noise control containers for diesel and gas generators, designed as generator enclosures for power generation applications including standby power, peaking plants, data centers and combined heat and power (CHP) systems.

Each acoustic container is engineered as a complete, self-contained unit. The structural baseplate, insulated external panels and load-bearing acoustically rated roof are designed to withstand harsh environmental conditions while supporting additional equipment including exhaust silencers and heat exchangers directly on the roof structure, eliminating the need for separate support steelwork.

Ventilation is a critical consideration in acoustic container design. Each unit can be configured with roof-mounted penthouses, separate inlet ventilation pods and acoustic attenuator modules on all air intake and exhaust openings, maintaining airflow for cooling and combustion requirements without compromising noise performance.

Containers can be partially or fully outfitted prior to delivery, allowing full factory acceptance test (FAT).

Structure: Each container includes a structural baseplate, insulated external panels and a load-bearing acoustically rated roof capable of supporting exhaust silencers, heat exchangers and additional machinery.

Ventilation:
Containers can be equipped with roof-mounted penthouses, separate inlet ventilation pods and standard attenuator units. Ventilation systems feature acoustic attenuators on air intake and exhaust openings to maintain airflow while limiting noise transmission.

Access:
Removable end walls and ventilation modules provide access for major plant removal and servicing. Double-leaf access doors are available and fully tested and certified lifting beams are incorporated for safe access to essential components.

Noise Reduction:
Acoustic containers typically provide 25 to 35 dB of noise reduction with some configurations achieving up to 40 dB.

Applications:
Diesel generators, gas turbine generators, emergency backup power systems, air compressors, water treatment equipment, switchgear and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.

Relevant Industries

Oil and gas refineries, natural gas processing plants and LNG facilities represent remarkably intensive and acoustically challenging industrial environments, generating intense noise levels from complex processing equipment, high-pressure systems and continuous operations. Hydrocarbon processing facilities require comprehensive noise control solutions to ensure worker safety, regulatory compliance, community relations and operational efficiency.

Industrial applications generate considerable noise as a result of high-capacity machinery, continuous operations and complex infrastructure. Without proper noise control, these environments can pose risks to employee health, disrupt surrounding communities and violate environmental and occupational noise regulations. Implementing tailored noise mitigation solutions of acoustic walls, noise barriers and silencers while utilizing acoustic modeling, CFD, FEA and noise measurements to design solutions not only supports safety, but also enhances operational efficiency and community relations.

Acoustic Containers FAQ

Acoustic containers are custom enclosures designed and manufactured to reduce noise from diesel and gas generators and other industrial equipment. Burgess-Manning acoustic containers are engineered as complete self-contained units for power generation applications including standby power, peaking plants, combined heat and power systems and data centers.

Yes. Burgess-Manning acoustic containers are available in custom and semi-standard configurations and can be partially or fully outfitted prior to delivery. Outfitting options include small power and lighting, pipework and fuel connections, fuel tanks, HV and LV power cabling and fire detection and suppression systems. Factory acceptance test (FAT) can be completed before shipment to streamline on-site installation.

Typical equipment housed within Burgess-Manning acoustic containers includes diesel generators, gas turbine generators, emergency backup power systems, air compressors, water treatment equipment, switchgear and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.

Yes. Housing a generator within a Burgess-Manning acoustic container is an effective method of reducing noise at the source. Acoustic containers are specifically engineered to manage noise generated by diesel and gas generators while maintaining the ventilation and access requirements of the equipment.

Acoustic containers are configured with acoustic attenuator modules on all air intake and exhaust openings to maintain airflow for cooling and combustion requirements without compromising noise performance. Each unit can be equipped with roof-mounted penthouses, separate inlet ventilation pods and standard attenuator units depending on project requirements.

Enclosing a generator within an acoustic container is recommended where site noise limits must be met, where the generator is located near noise-sensitive areas or where worker noise exposure must be managed. Burgess-Manning acoustic containers provide 25 to 35 dB of noise reduction as standard, with configurations available for higher noise reduction requirements depending on the site and equipment specifications.

Burgess-Manning acoustic containers typically provide 25 to 35 dB of noise reduction with some configurations achieving up to 40 dB. The level of noise reduction achieved depends on the equipment housed, the ventilation configuration and the specific noise limits required for the installation site.
