Custom Vent Silencers

Vent silencers are used to control the very high noise levels associated with venting pressurized gases to the atmosphere, such as steam, natural gas, air, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen or any other combination of compressed gases.

Burgess-Manning vent silencers are typically installed on relief, safety, control or start-up valves in steam boilers, HRSGs, gas compressing stations, FPSOs and most oil, gas and chemical processing plants. They are also used in any industry where compressed gases are utilized.

Custom vent silencers have been developed to address the needs of highly demanding customers that wants to specify everything, sometimes above code requirements: process and design conditions of course, but also materials, welding processes, NDE extent, extensive documentation for review and approval, or inspections. Silencers have to follow a lot of different specifications, resulting in a specific project management and quality process. With our highly qualified personnel all over the world, Burgess Manning has an extensive knowledge of the main Blue Chip or EPC customers’ requirements and the flexibility to adapt our manufacturing process according to the most improbable wishes.

Custom vent silencers are engineered to meet project-specific requirements, often exceeding standard code and documentation levels. Project timelines are therefore driven by the level of customization, including engineering scope, material selection, fabrication requirements, documentation, inspections and approval cycles. A dedicated preliminary engineering phase ensures that all requirements are clearly defined and validated before fabrication begins. The result is a vent silencer solution that fully complies with your technical, operational and project requirements.

Industrial applications generate considerable noise as a result of high-capacity machinery, continuous operations and complex infrastructure. Without proper noise control, these environments can pose risks to employee health, disrupt surrounding communities and violate environmental and occupational noise regulations. Implementing tailored noise mitigation solutions of acoustic walls, noise barriers and silencers while utilizing acoustic modeling, CFD, FEA and noise measurements to design solutions not only supports safety, but also enhances operational efficiency and community relations.
