Acoustic Enclosures

Burgess-Manning acoustic enclosures are industrial noise control enclosures designed to address equipment noise across a wide range of industries, applications and noise sources. Applications range from close-fitting enclosures for fans, condensing units and pumps to large CHP and gas and diesel generator enclosures.

Acoustic panels are mounted into a support system designed to suit access and maintenance requirements. Small close-fitting enclosures are formed using a bolted panel-to-panel construction. Large enclosures and canopies use a skeleton frame fabricated from steel hollow sections or beams, with panels retained by bolted cleat plates or a series of folded C-channels and H-sections depending on future access requirements.

Enclosures can be pre-equipped with lighting, small power, fire and gas detection and suppression systems and air conditioning systems to suit a variety of industry specifications.

Panel Construction: The outer panel casing is formed from a folded steel tray which fully encapsulates a layer of absorptive acoustic media (mineral wool) and sound-deadening layers. The acoustic media is faced with a glass fiber scrim as standard and protected by a perforated steel sheet. Acoustic insulation materials are odorless, rot-proof, non-hygroscopic, do not sustain vermin and will not encourage the growth of fungi, mold or bacteria.

Panel Thickness:
50mm, 75mm and 100mm as standard; thicker panels available for applications requiring higher noise reduction or increased absorption.

Materials:
Pre-galvanized sheet steel, precoated and colored steel, stainless steel or aluminum.

Construction Types:
Site-installed modular constructions, fully framed fabrications and one-piece drop-over units.

Noise Reduction:
Typical acoustic enclosures provide noise reduction of 15 to 30 dB.

Relevant Industries

Oil and gas refineries, natural gas processing plants and LNG facilities represent remarkably intensive and acoustically challenging industrial environments, generating intense noise levels from complex processing equipment, high-pressure systems and continuous operations. Hydrocarbon processing facilities require comprehensive noise control solutions to ensure worker safety, regulatory compliance, community relations and operational efficiency.

Industrial applications generate considerable noise as a result of high-capacity machinery, continuous operations and complex infrastructure. Without proper noise control, these environments can pose risks to employee health, disrupt surrounding communities and violate environmental and occupational noise regulations. Implementing tailored noise mitigation solutions of acoustic walls, noise barriers and silencers while utilizing acoustic modeling, CFD, FEA and noise measurements to design solutions not only supports safety, but also enhances operational efficiency and community relations.

Acoustic Enclosures FAQ

Acoustic enclosures are structures designed to reduce noise from industrial machinery and plant equipment including pumps, fans, compressors and generators. Burgess-Manning acoustic enclosures are available in configurations ranging from close-fitting enclosures for individual machines to large framed structures covering multiple pieces of equipment within a facility.

Acoustic panels reduce noise through a combination of sound absorption and transmission loss rather than blocking sound entirely. The absorptive acoustic media within each panel absorbs sound energy from the source while the mass of the panel materials reduces sound transmission through the enclosure wall. The combined effect provides significant noise reduction across the frequency spectrum of the source noise.

Acoustic enclosures are the primary enclosure type used to reduce noise from industrial machinery and plant equipment. Burgess-Manning acoustic enclosures are available as site-installed modular constructions, fully framed fabrications and one-piece drop-over units, providing noise reduction solutions for a wide range of equipment types and installation requirements.

Acoustic enclosures are not designed to block Wi-Fi signals. However, the steel panel construction used in acoustic enclosures can attenuate wireless signals to some degree. Where wireless connectivity is required within or around an acoustic enclosure, this should be considered as part of the facility design to ensure signal coverage is maintained.

Burgess-Manning acoustic enclosures typically provide noise reduction of 15 to 30 dB depending on the enclosure design and the frequency spectrum of the source noise. Where a higher level of noise reduction is required, thick acoustic panels or twin-wall enclosures can be specified.

Burgess-Manning acoustic enclosures are designed so that equipment performance is not negatively impacted. Ventilation systems are incorporated into each enclosure to maintain proper airflow for cooling and combustion air requirements, ensuring the enclosure does not restrict equipment operation.

The outer panel casing is formed from a folded steel tray encapsulating a layer of absorptive acoustic media (mineral wool) and sound-deadening layers. Burgess-Manning designs and manufactures acoustic enclosures for industrial machinery including compressors, generators, pumps and fans across oil and gas, power generation and general industrial applications. Enclosures are available as site-installed modular constructions, fully framed fabrications and one-piece drop-over units to suit a range of equipment types and installation requirements.

Acoustic enclosures reduce noise through a combination of sound absorption and sound transmission loss. The inner surfaces incorporate sound-absorbing materials that reduce noise reflections within the enclosure while the outer panel construction uses dense materials to block sound transmission to surrounding areas.
