Vent silencers are used to control the very high noise levels associated with venting pressurized gases to the atmosphere, such as steam, natural gas, air, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen or any other combination of compressed gases.

Burgess Manning Commissioning silencers are a specific type of vent silencers used for pipe cleaning operations before commissioning of a new plant or after revamping. A high velocity steam flow is blowed into the plant pipes to remove all rust, splatters and debris that can have accumulated during erection and site works inside the pipes. The steam is released to atmosphere, typically close to grade level, generating very high noise levels and the discharge of debris and particulates.

For this temporary but demanding operation, Burgess-Manning has developed a heavy-duty commissioning silencer design with a horizontal inlet that allows debris to be collected and safely removed without risk of damage to the silencer, nearby equipment, or personnel.

The horizontal inlet is fitted with a blind flange, enabling easy cleaning and repeated reuse, allowing the silencer to be deployed across multiple commissioning campaigns.

Commissioning silencers are available for purchase or rental, depending on the duration and scope of the pipe cleaning or steam-blow program
